The I-85 highway that runs through Montgomery devastated the historically black neighborhood that once stood there. As Montgomery was integral to the civil rights movement, efforts have been made to help restore this once thriving neighborhood. Mount Zion AME Zion Church was a stop on the Selma Montgomery March in which people stopped to rest before marching to the Alabama capital building. This church is also where the Montgomery Bus Boycotts were planned, and Martin Luther King was elected to lead the civil rights movement. For this project I was assigned Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, an important building within the Peacock Tract of Montgomery. The building is unfolded, and parts of the building are erased to represent the erasure of the neighborhood.
